Baptism

The Bible speaks about baptism as a symbolic act, to demonstrate a Christian’s desire to publicly show that they have made a personal decision to follow Jesus. It is not the same as childhood Christening..

In Bethesda, when someone asks to be baptised we hold a short series of Baptism classes prior to the occasion, to ensure there is a full understanding of what this very important step means in the life of a Christian.

We follow the same way in which Jesus and his followers were baptised….by being fully immersed in water.

This act of going under the water symbolises burying our ‘old’ way of life before we became a Christian. Coming up out of the water a few seconds later represents our “new’ life in Jesus, and the joy and purpose that baptism brings to serve him!

Whilst the early Church probably used the sea or a river, we have a baptistry in Bethesda, and yes, the water is warm too!

You will of course be fully clothed, perfectly safe and supported when being baptised!

It is an extremely happy occasion for the church and friends to witness.

Are you a Christian? Have you been baptised?

If you would like to discuss either or both of these questions, please do contact us.
