Our Leadership
The Bethesda Leadership Team has three areas of responsibility and we seek to apply the roles in accordance with our understanding of biblical principles and according to what is felt to match individual gift/skills/experience:
Trustees - for legal matters/requirements
Elders - for spiritual and pastoral needs of the church
Deacons - for practical matters within the Church

MATT LEWIS
FULL TIME CHURCH WORKER & YOUTH WORKLEAD
Big personality. Big frame. Big passion. Six words that seem to sum Matt up pretty well. As an Elder I have responsibility for overseeing nurturing of children and youth within Bethesda and ministry in schools. As a full time employee for Bethesda he focuses on preaching, outreach and the community

MATT GUY
ELDER / COMMUNITY WORK LEAD
I’m Matt, I live in Dinas Powys and have worshipped at Bethesda since my wife, Ruth, and I moved into the village in the 1990’s. It’s a privilege to belong to a local church that loves Jesus and demonstrates this through its compassion for our community. Alongside being a Church Elder I work full-time as a Family Intervention worker for Barnardo’s.

ROGER NEWBERRY
ELDER / PASTORAL LEAD
My wife and I joined Bethesda in 1978 shortly after we moved into the area. I taught for 40 years in primary schools in Penarth and Cardiff. We were youth leaders for a long time, before I became an Elder over 20 years ago. I retired in 2011and I am now a full time husband, father and grandfather.

JEFF LACEY
ELDER
My wife and I joined Bethesda in 2015, having served in various leadership roles in a church in Barry for 40 years. After a career in public service, I served as General Manager of Hebron Hall Christian Centre, in Dinas Powys, for 17 years before retiring. We have two grown up children and four grandchildren whom we love and enjoy.

JOHN LEWIS
DEACON | Maintenance
I have been privileged to have known the Lord Jesus for many years. I relocated to Dinas Powys with my wife, Elaine and our 6 children over 25 years ago & we now have 12 gorgeous grandchildren. I am still currently working in Cardiff Prison. One of my roles at Bethesda is the care & maintenance of the building.

DOUG REED
DEACON | Administration
I’ve lived in Dinas Powys for over 35 years, am retired and married with 3 sons, and 12 grandchildren! I’d love you to ask me about my journey of faith in Jesus! As a Deacon I am involved in administration and finance matters within Bethesda …there’s hardly a DIY bone in my body!

TRYSTAN FOOTE
DEACON
I've lived in Dinas Powys all my life and have been a member of Bethesda since I was a nipper. Married to Krista & have 2 children that occupy a lot of my time. Having played football for Dinas Powys throughout my youth, I took on coaching a junior team with the club which has been a great experience.

JASON ERICKSON
DEACON | Fire Health & Safety
I first began attending the Friday night youth club at Bethesda as a young teenager after being invited by Matt Lewis. Before long, I also started coming along to church on Sundays. At the age of 16, I put my trust and faith in Jesus Christ during the ‘Tell Wales’ event with Luis Palau at Cardiff Arms Park. Since then, I’ve been seeking to follow His ways and teachings in my life. I’m married to Kate, and we have two energetic boys who also attend Bethesda. I’m involved in the youth work on Sunday mornings, play bass in the worship group, take part in a midweek home group, and serve as a Deacon with responsibility for health and safety. I also try to be generally helpful around the church wherever I can.

AMY REED
DEACON | Fellowship Support
I’ve been part of Dinas Powys & Bethesda for over 20 years since marrying my husband, Paul. We have three wonderful, busy boys who keep life full of fun and energy! I’m passionate about worship and prayer, and I love spending time with friends and our church family. As a deacon, my heart is for fellowship, especially intergenerational fellowship, creating spaces where we can share life together, build friendships, and support one another in faith and everyday life.

SARAH MILLER
DEACON | Community
I grew up in Dinas Powys, but moved away in my early 20s. I returned almost 10 years ago and have been part of Bethesda since moving back. I’m married to Mark and we have two teenage sons. I enjoy going away in our camper van and am a fair weather runner! As community deacon, I coordinate and support the works of Bethesda within our community.
